| | THE LORD IS RISEN | | Act 10:34a,37-43 Col 3:1-4 or 1 Cor 5:6b-8 Jn 20:1-9 or Lk 24:1-12 | | April,04 | | Easter Sunday | We have to take many things on faith. We all have parents. We are sure of our mother. The doctor, the nurse, the midwife and others saw us being born of the woman we call our mother; but we have poor evidence to support the man we call our father. We take him on faith. The father, too, requires faith concerning the child born of his wife. The mother does not require faith because she knows whose child was born of her. Fathers, who know that their wives had no secret lovers, do not hesitate to take it on faith that the children begotten of their wives, are theirs. Every child takes it on faith that the persons they call father and mother are their parents.
We cannot live on the faith of our parents. We have to build up our own faith. We have to increase our faith. |
| We see our parents spend themselves for us. They give us their time, money and energy. They do the most menial tasks for us. Briefly, they manifest a love in all that they do for us. This love for us increases our faith in them and vice versa.
God is love, and only those who love Him know Him. Love is the key to solving the mysteries of our faith. The resurrection is a mystery. The apostles were lovers and they understood the mystery of the resurrection. Let us look at the story of the resurrection given to us in the fourth Gospel. It is built against the background of a new creation. The Gospel says it was the first day of the week. The first day here is more than a Sunday.
